Lucida AI: how it works, safety and languages
What is Lucida AI?
Lucida AI is a speaking app for iOS and Android where you hold real spoken conversations with an AI tutor called Lucy. You talk out loud, she replies, and afterwards you get feedback on how you spoke and a score you can watch move from one session to the next.
The app holds an App Store rating of 4.8 from more than 120,000 ratings, over 33 million downloads and an App of the Year badge. Sessions adapt to your level and to what you want the practice for.
How does a Lucida session actually work?
A session is a spoken conversation, not a written exercise. Lucy speaks first, you answer out loud, with no script to read from. What follows is the shape of a single session, from opening the app to reading your feedback.
• Open the app and pick the language you are learning.
• Choose a tutor and a scenario: a meeting, a presentation, a job interview or small talk.
• Speak your answers out loud while Lucy replies and keeps the conversation moving.
• Read the feedback afterwards and watch your speaking scores move across sessions.
What feedback do you get?
Feedback covers pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, pace and filler words. You see what you said, what was off, and how to say it better. Scores are CEFR-aligned and tracked over time, so one session sits on the same scale as the one you did last month.
Which languages can you learn?
You can practise English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. Feedback is given in your native language, so corrections stay readable while you are still a beginner in the language you are learning. The tutor speaks the language you are practising, and the difficulty moves with your level.
Is Lucida safe and private?
Every conversation in Lucida is with Lucy, the AI tutor. The app is published on the App Store and Google Play, and runs on iOS and Android. Practising speech means the app works with what you say in order to give feedback on it. If you want specifics about how your data is handled, ask through the contact page.
What do you need to use it?
A phone running iOS or Android, a working microphone and an internet connection. The app itself is free to download, and some features need a subscription; the price that applies to you is shown inside the app before you pay.
How do you start in the first five minutes?
Download the app, pick the language you want to speak, and say what your level is and what you want the practice for. Choose a scenario close to something real you have coming up. Then talk for a few minutes. Your first feedback arrives at the end of that first conversation.
Frequently asked questions
Can Lucida help me prepare for a job interview?
Yes. Job interviews are one of the role-play scenarios, alongside meetings, presentations and small talk. You speak your answers out loud to Lucy, she responds as the other person would, and the feedback afterwards tells you where pronunciation, pace or filler words got in the way.
Is Lucida good for a beginner?
Yes. Sessions adapt to your level, goals and interests, so the conversation meets you where you are. Feedback comes in your native language, which matters most at the start, when reading corrections in the language you are learning would be its own obstacle.
Does Lucida work offline?
No. A session is a live spoken conversation with an AI tutor, and both your speech and the feedback are handled while you talk, so an internet connection is required. You need a phone, a working microphone and a connection.
How much does Lucida cost?
There is no single price. Lucida is free to download, some features need a subscription, and what that subscription costs depends on your country and your store, so the exact amount appears in the app before you pay.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions bought through the App Store or Google Play are cancelled in your store account settings, not inside Lucida itself. the Subscription Policy page has the steps for both stores. If you want money back on a payment already taken, the Refund and Cancellation page covers how refund requests work.
