About Lucida AI

What is Lucida AI?

Lucida AI is a language-learning company. Its product is an AI speaking coach app for iOS and Android where learners hold real spoken conversations with an AI tutor called Lucy and get live feedback on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and fluency, in six languages. Companies use it for employee language training too.

Everything in the app is built around spoken practice. The whole product is conversation: an AI tutor that listens, answers, and tells you what to fix, which is the part of language learning that is hardest to get anywhere else.

Why is speaking the hardest part to practice?

Most learners can read and understand far more than they can say out loud. Speaking is the hardest skill to get practice in, because it needs someone who will listen and correct you. Lucida gives every learner a conversation partner that corrects mistakes as they happen, in the language they are learning.

How does the Lucida app work?

You speak to Lucy, the AI tutor, in the language you are learning. Lucy replies out loud, keeps the conversation going, and gives feedback on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, pace and filler words. That feedback is delivered in your native language, so beginners can understand what went wrong.

Conversations are built as realistic scenarios and role-play: team meetings, presentations, job interviews, small talk. The app adapts to your level, goals and interests, and your speaking scores are tracked against the CEFR levels, so progress is measured on a standard scale rather than a rough guess.

Which languages can you learn?

Six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. You pick the one you want to learn, and Lucida gives its explanations and corrections in your own native language, which means you do not need to already speak the target language well enough to understand the feedback about it.

How many people use Lucida?

Lucida has passed 33 million downloads across iOS and Android. On the App Store it holds a 4.8 rating from more than 120,000 ratings and carries an App of the Year badge. Companies run the same spoken practice for their staff through Lucida for Business.

Can companies use Lucida to train staff?

Yes. Lucida for Business is the version companies use for employee language training. Managers get team dashboards, a CEFR distribution across the team, and per-employee assessments. Employees practice the same spoken scenarios as everyone else, aimed at the situations their work involves: meetings, presentations, interviews and small talk.
